In October 2026, a single browser update switches off the mechanism that has powered one-tap mobile wallets and carrier billing for over a decade. When Chrome 154 enforces HTTPS by default, header enrichment stops working, and the frictionless payment your subscribers tap through becomes a form many won’t finish.
The rollout has already begun. Around one billion users are affected starting in April 2026; by October, it’s everyone on Chrome, roughly three-quarters of mobile traffic. Industry analysis points to conversion drops of 40–55% on affected flows.
